MMK to utilize new decarbonization technology at blast furnace No. 11
According to Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK), one of the world's largest steel producers in Russia, it will use synthesis gas (syngas), a mixture of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H2), at its new blast furnace No. 11 to replace part of solid carbon fuels and reduce carbon emissions.
Blast furnace No. 11 was ordered last June, and it is now under construction. The new blast furnace will use new techniques developed by Paul Wurth, a member of SMS group.
These technologies are able to be applied in the existing blast furnaces as well, thereby cutting carbon dioxide emissions from worldwide sites.
