UNESID, the Spanish steelmakers' association, indicated that many Spanish steel mills stopped producing due to high energy costs. Some steel mills have suspended production since the beginning of March, and some started the annual maintenance in advance.

Spain is the fourth-largest steel producer in Europe, after Germany, Italy, and France. According to the report, Megasa stopped its 700,000-ton/year A Coruna steel mill and shifted most of its production to night in order to avoid producing during the peak prices period.

ArcelorMittal de Espana, one of Spain's largest steel producers, mentioned that it will continue producing without stopping production. However, its long products department has already discontinued production since the end of 2021 to reduce its electricity cost.
