U.S. Steel CEO: Trump’s 25% steel import tariff should not be removed
David Burritt, the CEO of U.S.
Steel, believed that it was not the time to withdraw the 25% steel tariff
signed by Trump because China's growing steel is bringing tremendous pressure
on the US industry.
He believed that there is no level playing field in the steel industry;
therefore, Clause 232 is necessary. The main reason is China’s steel may
finally enter the US through Europe.
The chairman of China Steel Corporation (CSC) said that the new president of
the US just took office, and the policies should not be changed much.
He also pointed out that due to the effect of the COVID-19 epidemic, the US'
utilization rate of crude steel production capacity is still insufficient for
domestic strong demand, so Taiwan’s company should seize the business
opportunities.
