ArcelorMittal Brazil stated that the demand
for long steel products is strong, so it has decided to resume the operation of
the Barra Mansa steel plant in the second half of 2021. The plant will receive
an investment of approximately BRL 19 million.
The Barra Mansa steel plant ceased production in early 2019. It mainly produces
steel bars and wire rods. Driven by domestic demand, the demand for steel in
the local market continues to increase. Therefore, the steel mill decided to
resume operations and will use one of the two electric arc furnaces in the
plant.
The annual crude steel production capacity of the Barra Mansa steel plant is
800,000 tons. The decision to resume operations this time allows ArcelorMittal
Brazil to strengthen its business in Brazil and also express its confidence in
restoring the economy.
