China's private 304 cold-rolled base prices in Wuxi fluctuated within narrow ranges throughout June. Market sentiment turned cautious after a post-Dragon Boat Festival callback erased temporary gains driven by mill maintenance announcements.

High high-carbon ferrochrome contract prices for July and relatively high overall raw material expenses limit down-side pricing adjustments. However, potential expansions in Indonesian nickel mining quotas and cheaper ferrochrome contracts marginally weakened overall production cost support.

On the supply side, stainless steel output drops across multiple steel mills, particularly in the 200 series, provide a baseline floor. Even so, current production remains high compared to last year. Demand is still depressed, as high temperatures and seasonal rains disrupt outdoor construction and piping projects, leaving appliance and hardware manufacturers with fewer orders. Consequently, high inventory levels restrain sustainable price growth.
