Stegra, a Swedish company, has closed a EUR 1.4 billion funding round led by Wallenberg Investments for its near-zero emission steel plant in Boden. The round included existing investors, new shareholders, and financial institutions.
Founded in 2020 to decarbonise heavy industry, the company views this fresh capital as validation of its low-emission production strategy. With the financing complete, Stegra will intensify construction at the Boden site while simultaneously reviewing the overall project schedule to adjust subsequent execution phases.
The initiative aims to build a clean-technology value chain to cut emissions from steelmaking, one of the most climate-intensive sectors. Stegra also receives support from the EU Innovation Fund and the Swedish Energy Agency for its energy transition efforts.
