US steel manufacturer Nucor Corporation announced that its board of directors had approved the construction of a sheet plant with an annual capacity of 3 million tons. The facility will possibly locate in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia and will serve customers in the Midwest and Northeast markets of the US.

The new mill will cost approximately US$2.7 billion and can produce 3 million tons of steel per year. In addition, it will be able to produce hot-rolled sheet products through downstream processing, including a tandem cold rolling mill, annealing functions, and two initial galvanizing lines.

Galvanizing capabilities will include an advanced high-end automotive production line with a comprehensive inspection and a construction-grade production line.
