Ikongwe, the first iron ore area in Botswana, South Africa, has begun to produce iron ore and exported its iron ore products to China for the first time.
The Ikongwe mining area is invested and developed by Vision Ridge Investments, a subsidiary of India’s Yashomann Industries. The mining area was expected to produce 1 million tons of iron ore per year in the first ten years, with a grade of up to 65%.
The iron ore exports from the Ikongwe mining area are currently transported through containers in South Africa. The bulk cargo transportation from the Port of Maputo, Mozambique, is currently under negotiation between Vision Ridge and Botswana Railways, which will increase the export volume of iron ore products.
