A member of the US Congress put forward legislative proposals on cracking down on China’s unfair trade practices, dealing with industrial overcapacity, and focusing on protecting the domestic steel industry in the US during the December meeting, hoping anti-dumping and countervailing duties can be brought closer to the current situation through the bill.

The legislators who introduced the bill said that China’s overcapacity of steel production has hurt the US steel industry and called on Congress to take more measures to combat China’s anti-free market practices and ensure that the US steel industry can compete in a fair environment.

The United Steelworkers (USW) believed that this proposal, called the Fair Competition Act, can improve the procedures required for the local steel industry to apply for anti-dumping rulings. Local companies should spend money on rebuilding factories instead of hiring lawyers to provide evidence and sue overseas companies for anti-dumping.
