According to statistics, Vietnam’s scrap imports totaled 5.67 million tons in 2021, dropping by 3% compared to the previous year due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Among them, the imports from Japan plummeted by 34% year on year to around 3.4 million tons due to a big gap between buyers' and sellers’ ideal prices and strong demand in Japan’s domestic market.

During the period, Vietnam imported more scrap from the US. The import volume jumped by 65% year on year to 1.03 million tons.

Australia and Hong Kong were also sources of Vietnam’s scrap imports, with a separate volume of 550,000 tons and 500,000 tons in 2021.
