U.S. Steel to invests $60 million to expand pig iron production capacity
U.S. Steel, an integrated steel producer headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, said that it will invest US$60 million to expand the production capacity of pig iron at its Gary Works in Gary, Indiana.
The production capacity of this plant will be increased to 500,000 tons a year, which will be helpful for the development of electric arc furnaces operations. The expanded production will meet around 50% of Big River Steel's demand for pig iron.
The construction was scheduled to be started in the first half of 2022, and the expected date for the completion was in 2023.
