Glencore announced on March 11
that it will cut coal production to under 85 million tons by 2035 and reach
carbon neutrality in 2050.
Glencore has coal mining in Australia, South Africa, and Colombia. Among them,
Queensland has metallurgical coal, New South Wales has metallurgical coal and
thermal coal, and South Africa and Colombia have thermal coal.
Glencore's coal production capacity (based on its property rights) last year
was 106.2 million tons, declining by 23.9% compared with 2019. Among them,
Australia had 74.3 million tons (a year-on-year decline of 16%), South Africa
had 24 million tons (a year-on-year decrease of 10.8%), and Colombia had 7.9
million tons (a year-on-year drop of 67.4%).
Glencore may fall back from Colombia and South Africa's coal mining industry
and produce only in Australia.
