It was understood that ArcelorMittal Brazil would restart
the Vega expansion plan. The total value of the project was US$336.9 million
(BRL 1.9 billion) and was expected to be completed before the fourth quarter of
2023.
The company expected to increase its hot-dip and cold-rolled coil production
capacity. It also planned to build a continuous annealing line and a continuous
galvanizing line with an annual capacity of 700,000 tons at the Santa Catarina
plant, aiming to serve the growing domestic market.
For the domestic civil engineering and home appliance fields, the expansion
plan would also add an organic coating production line with an annual
production capacity of 100,000 tons, which was expected to improve the
company's position in the automotive and industrial markets.
