US’ steelmaker group calls for suspension of Section 232 tariffs on steel imports
The Coalition of American Metal Manufacturers and Users (CAMMU), representing US’ metal manufacturers and users, called on President Biden to cancel the 232 Section’s 25% tariffs imposed on steel imports as the domestic hot-rolled steel price is extremely and unreasonably high, which is far higher than the prices of the EU and China.
In addition to domestic high prices, the US steel mills’ high capacity utilization rate is also a reason to cancel the 25% import tariffs. The current US steel mills’ capacity utilization rate is as high as 85%, which is much higher than the 80% target set by the US Department of Commerce (USDOC).
